CGC Makes Big Changes

In July, CCG will combine CGC Trading Cards® and Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG®) into CGC Cards™.

The new look slabs:

The new labels are a modified version of the CSG labels:

Pristine 10s will get a new gold label:

What does this all mean?

They will grade collector cards and sports cards so that they appear to be a larger single grading company.

TCG cards, sports cards, and non sports cards will each keep their respective “expert” graders.

What does this mean for me?

You no longer need a membership to grade cards. Memberships are still available at $25 a year.

CGCcards.com will have just one online submission form for all TCGs, sports cards and non-sports cards

The fineprint:

  • CGC 9.5s can be regraded as Gem mint 10s.

Any current CGC 9.5s will reflect a Gem Mint 10 grade online.

  • Perfect 10s no longer exist.

CGC themselves recommend against regrading a perfect 10.

  • No more sub-grades.

Because only 5% of submissions requested a subgrade, and this was enough evidence to ditch subgrades altogether.

Which begs the question, how do they grade cards if not for the subgrades?

Goodbye, old friend

These changes are not particularly welcome within the community. Personally, I only own one CGC graded card and it’s only a 9.

If you have a bunch of 9.5s then this is great news for you. If you have a bunch of 10s, well this is bad news for you with all of the 9.5s joining the gem mint 10 club.

And we all know how graded 10s are highly sought after. This is a huge punch to the gut to CGC collectors.

If you like sub-grades, you’re too much of a hassle. Not even my dog asks for sub-grades. Sincerely, CGC.

Special Guest at TRACON Melbourne

The man himself was announced, Mitsuhiro Arita.

This is a great opportunity to meet the legend in person, and snag a sneaky autograph on your favourite card.

TRACON 2023 is a Trading Card Game (TCG) Convention and will be held at Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 19th - 20th of August.

WOTC Wednesday

Featuring Umbreon from Aquapolis 2003.

Umbreon H29/H32 Illus. Mitsuhiro Arita

A grail card illustrated by the man himself.

Umbreon 41/147

There’s one good thing about non-holo rares. You can see the illustration clearly.

It’s obvious the VMAX alt has a call back to this card. Except the moon’s a little smaller and Umby’s a tad larger. But don’t tell her I said that.

So, how does this card perform as the most valuable card from Aquapolis?

It’s holding well, with a bit of a dip in price.

You know, an autograph might raise the price on this thing 🤔
