  • Antiques Roadshow features complete base set

  • Story within illustrated cards

  • Trainer Tuesday with a famous duo

Feel old yet?

Just when you thought Antiques Roadshow only features your grandmother’s china set or Tutankhamun’s most beloved grain of sand, you see the cards you used to collect as a kid.

He can’t believe he’s in the same room with a complete base set and a girl

When she was younger, her mum bought her a complete base set because as a based mother she realised her little girl was getting screwed over in card trades.

How much did she get this binder for? A whopping $35USD.

(~$50AUD - exchange rates were roughly the same back then in the late 90s as they are today)

This was very cheap for this set of cards and I’m talking back then. The Charizard alone was probably that much.

So what exactly do we have here? Supposedly the whole base set, they don’t actually flip past the holos. She claims to have around 150 cards in this binder.

But looking at what we see, there is a mixture of regular base and shadowless cards, a 1st edition shadowless Machamp, and a 1st edition Clefable (from Jungle).

The shadowless cards are Mewtwo Blastoise, Gyarados, Nidoking, Alakazam, Poliwrath, Clefairy, Mewtwo,

and yes… a shadowless Charizard.

DING DING DING!! surprise Pikachu face

What did her expert friends value this collection at? $50.

I think we all know what they were up to.

Landry (the guy on the right) valued her binder at $5k to $10kUSD. Needless to say she was impressed.

On Twitter

So here’s a cool thought about that new Tangela card that was leaked.

Oswaldo KATO is a new member of the illustration team, joining during the Sword and Shield series in Chilling Reign.

Another card of his work

You may remember such cards as the Origin Forme Palkia V Alt, Galarian Zapdos Evo Skies stamped promo, Parasect Lost Origin TG, and you’ll probably remember the cute common Bidoof from Brilliant Stars.

The creative limits on this guy are… limitless. It wouldn’t be surprising to hear if he was actually telling the story of Charizard’s destruction.

Trainer Tuesday

Red & Blue Tag Team Supporter

From Cosmic Eclipse

Red & Blue 234/236 Illus. Hitoshi Ariga

Name a more iconic du- okay let’s not go there. But they are one of Pokemon’s most known rivalries. Popular characters means popular card. They aren’t the most trainer card from Cosmic Eclipse, but they are probably the most recognisable, so long as people have conversions enabled in their brain to go from the 8-bit version to HD.

These two are standing strong on the price chart. I hope they can keep it going.

That’s a wrap!

I hope you enjoyed the twelfth edition.
