  • 3 EX Team Rocket Returns cards feature in Throwback Thursday

IRL Team Rocket

They’re out for your Pikachu and every other rare card.

This incident occurred last year in February, in Forest, Lake Minnesota

Through what seemed like a smart idea concocted by 2 men, a thief broke into an unoccupied store that shared a wall with a Pokemon card retailer. He then broke through the common wall to steal valuable Pokemon cards. $250k worth according to the owner at the time. This scheme let them move in and out of the store without tripping alarms.

Pichu looks happy. Too happy.

Jessie and James Matthew James Cuypers Jr., 40, and Dustin Anthony Wittern also 40, left enough evidence behind, and were eventually found. They have been charged $150,000 for their crimes.

Blasting off to broke, lads.

Throwback Thursday

Three gold star Pokemon from EX Team Rocket Returns in 2004.

Hoenn’s own starters; Mudkip, Torchic and Treecko.

2004 was when Pokemon as a whole was largely unpopular. Likely as the cool kids didn’t want to be seen playing with imaginary cartoon animals anymore. Some were brave enough to keep the obsession going (I admire you all). Or maybe most people just grew tired of Pokemon and thought it was a fad. Little did they know…

The ones that braved it, as well as the die-hard fans probably own these super rare, and super cool cards. Which are worth a small fortune these days.

Fun fact: these were the first gold star cards introduced into the Pokemon TCG.

Mudkip * 107/109

Torchic * 108/109

Treecko * 109/109

Those brave ones are cheering right now. These prices are nuts.

They’re all holding strong in the $300-$700USD range. Torchic being the most expensive, as it was the more popular starter.

Were you a brave one?

Or were you too cool for Pokemon?
